National Active and Retired Federal Employees, Charleston Chapter 0166 will meet at 10 a.m. Friday at the South Charleston Public Library, 312 Fourth Ave. A representative from the Attorney General's Office will speak to seniors on identity theft and scams. Seniors are encouraged to participate. For information, call Robert Hardesty at 304-346-5250.
Unity of Kanawha Valley will be home to the next Open Stage and Coffee House, with host Ron Sowell, at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening at 804 Myrtle Road. Local musicians are welcome to come and share their talents in a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere. Performers sign up at 7 p.m. General admission is $5. Admission for performers, seniors and children is $2. Various coffees, teas, soft drinks and homemade treats are available at a small cost. Ron Sowell's Coffee House and Open Stage takes place on the second Friday of every month.
Nitro High School Boys Basketball Team will sponsor a pancake breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Southridge Applebee's. The cost of the breakfast is $5. For information, call Mayor Rusty Casto at 304-755-0705 or Evelyn Klocke at 304-776-3684.
St. Albans Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at its building and museum at 404 Fourth Ave., adjacent to the C&O Depot in St. Albans. Greg Carroll of the state Archives and History will give a talk on how to research Civil War ancestors and also how to reclaim West Virginia military medals from that era. The public is invited and refreshments will follow.
Putnam County Parks and Recreation Commission is looking for instructors to teach classes. Anyone who has a trade and would like to teach a class can call 304-562-0518, ext. 10.
West Virginia State University is offering free Zumba classes to students and the staff from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. every Monday in Union building conference room. The school is trying to promote healthy activities for students and the staff. The community can participate with a $5 fee per class.
